Exposed grid lay-in tiles are the most popular types of ceiling. The
tiles can be supplied in either mineral fibre or metal to meet fire,
acoustic and aesthetic requirements. The suspended ceiling hung from the floor above on hangers. The hangers support a lightweight grid of aluminium main runners and cross tees. Into this grid the lay-in tiles are placed. Whilst this provides a false ceiling it is more often used to conceal services such as lighting, plumbing and air conditioning. Acoustics are a major consideration with the need for privacy and concentration. With the right combination of sound insulation and sound absorbtion improvements in comfort and productivity can be attained. Some tiles can have light reflectance properties where they make more efficient use of available light which can reduce energy costs by the reduction of light fittings. |
